Stalling / engine dying

2000 Peugeot 206 1.4
Car: Peugeot 206
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.4
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I have a peugeot 206, which ( I think it may be the cold weather) when it first starts up the engine revs drop as though it is about to cut out, it does this for about 5 minutes - when driving it does it also, it's like driving with kangaroo juice for a while, when it is warmed up it doesn't tend to happen although it does once in a while. Has anyone got any idea what this can be ?

I would have thought a fuel pump / injection or a electircal problem would have been there all the time.

please help

This has started happening to my car and from what i can tell it is the freezing weather. Do you warm the engine up (let it idle for a few minutes) before driving off? With this weather your engine will be around 0 - -1c before you start and most modern engine oils need time to reach optimum temp to protect your engine, your fuel injection system needs some time to adjust itself to the extreme temp also. My advice would be to let the car idle for at least 5 mins in the morning before driving off. I dont think its a major problem and should correct itself when the weather gets warmer.

could try cleaning idle air control valve(near air flap)this decides how much air to put into system less when cold if stuck youll get to much air.shows up at extremes of temp.basic manual eg haynes will tell you where the parts to clean are.
