2002 Peugeot 206 the lights randomly come on even when its not on auto

i have an auto button which is for the lights but it doesnt seem to do anything ... my lights come on at random (even when there not turned on) and when i press the auto button to try turn the auto off it just carries on

Could be faulty automatic light sensor .
