2001 Peugeot 206 oil light keeps comming on and struggles uphill

Car: Peugeot 206
Year: 2001
Variant: Qyicksilver 1.4 petrol
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi my peugot 206 Quicksilver 1.4 petrol keeps struggling to go uphill. I topped up the oil recommended by the garage and for a week it ran ok. Suddley the juddering started agai, the engine made avthroaty noise and the oil light came on. I pulled over very slowly as I had no power and put mote oil in. In the last month i have put 4ltrs of oil in. The car gradually got worse with the judderung, only way to describe it is it sounds like its missing and jumps, at the same time there is a creaking from under the car that goes away after it warms up. The oil light came on again yesterday and the temperature went right up but not in the red, and the power loss was bad. I have checked the oil dipstick and there is plenty of oil in it. I noticed the coolent resiviour bottle is empty so wonder if i simply need to put coolent in it? I am not sure what to do. I need my car as i live in the country abd work in the city. Please help

You will have to fill with coolant first and hope you haven't damaged engine by driving with it in that condition .

Hi thanks for responding. I have put 50/50 of water and coolent in the car as recommended by my local garage. I drove the car this morning for 11miles (no motorway) and it purred like a kitten. I left the car stood for 1/2hour and then drive it a further 12 miles, 4 miles motorway, I did not exceed 70mph. As soon as I came off the motorway the temp light up, the juddering became very bad, i had no power and the throaty engine sound was back. I pulled over and steam was coming off the engine, I loosened the coolent container lid to let off excess steam and noticed the coolent was bubbling. I left the car stood for 20 mins and checked the oil dipstick, it still showed plenty of oil. I then drove the car at 30mph to my destination which was a further 2miles with no problem.2 hours later I needed to drive 12 miles home mostly motorway this time I stayed at a steady 50mph and was able to get home with no over heating or jydderung. the problem seems to manifest when I drive at speads over 50 the engine just cannot cope with it. any ideas what could be causing this? I am worried the head gasket is gone or on its way out?

You will have to find the cause of overheating .A pressure test of cooling system will show any external leaks from water pump , hoses etc .If nothing shows , a block test will confirm if head gasket leaking or not .You could check thermostat and also flush through cooling system in case radiator possibly partially blocked .Also bleed cooling system and check fan operating o.k .Many possible causes to check , but dont open rad. header tank to top up when engine hot , only cold
