2002 Peugeot 206 stop light coming on whilst driving

The STOP light keeps coming on whilst I'm driving, usually when the revs are high. The STOP sign comes on and beeps then goes off again. Happens on most of my short journeys and I'm not sure if I should have the car looked at my a garage or not???

Have you done basic checks i.e checked the coolant level ( when cold !) and oil level ?
