Nissan Sunny reduced thrust when driving uphill

Car gradually slows down as it ascends the slope, despite at high speed abinitio. Plus the engine is not faulty, nor does it smoke. With time it almost totally stops on the way uphill. But on descent it starts gathering much speed again just as it does on level ground.

If somehow you know for sure it's not an engine problem , it must be the clutch slipping .
