Clutch pedal got harder to operate until it would not. The thrust bearing stays in the engaged position as the bottom bush seizes as the thrust bearing rod corrodes until it can't move at all

Clutch / gearbox failures are one of the many known faults with that car and often feature on here and elsewhere
