When i accelerate, the car slows down and grinds to a halt. Changing the fuel filter has not made a difference.it can take a while tovget it going again.no warning lights come on when this happens

The fact there is no warning lights doesn't really mean much . Try cleaning the MAF or scan it for any stored fault codes
