Ford Focus looks likes clutch has failed, can,t select the gears ,smell of burning. 2019 model st line 1.2 petrol. ..

Unable to select any gears whilst the engine is running, gear selection is fine when the engine is switched off. Managed to start the car whilst gear and drive slowly towards home, only 2 miles away. Stoped at lights 1/2 a mile from home and unable to restart in gear to finish the last 1/2 of a mile home . A strong smell of burning and quite a lot of smoke. But prior to stoping was driving ok, speed did not exceed 20 mph second gear.

With the burning smell and smoke , sounds like clutch failure / burnt out .

Cheers , hoping it might just be the slave cylinder leaking, some fluid in the reservoir but on the minium mark. don,t know the location of the slave cylinder could fluid be leaking on to the hot engine / exhaust?.

It's a concentric clutch bearing / slave cylinder so it's possible it could be leaking on to clutch centre plate . Even so the clutch plate will need replacing as will the slave cyl . and clutch pressure plate . All will be revealed on strip down .
