Gavin

My first Porsche was a 2001 2.7 Boxster in Arctic Silver with Metropole Blue interior. Whilst it's technically the slowest car in the Porsche line-up (excluding Cayenne models) it makes up for it's lack of straight line speed in driveability. I always had 100% confidence throwing it in to corners and pushing it to the edge of my driving ability. I think that's the beauty of Porsches, no matter where the edge of your driving ability is it's nowhere near that of the cars, unless you're an F1 driver!

I only had one little problem whilst I owned the car, whilst driving in central London one day it kept cutting out (engine, electrics, everything) when I changed up in to 2nd gear. It happened in some dangerous places so I got the car towed to the Porsche Centre to avoid having a black cab end up in the boot! They had it for 3 days and found nothing wrong, it didn't happen again after I got it back. They put it down to a glitch in the computer. Good explanation I thought, not really a good enough answer if it had happened at 80mph though! (** on a test track or autobahn obviously, I wouldn't dream of going over 70mph on a UK road.

The Boxster is easily the best Roadster available, and given the speed restrictions on UK roads the 2.7 is arguably the smart man's choice. However, the biggest problem the Boxster has is its image as a hairdressers car and a "poor mans' Porsche". It's stupid to give in to these things, but they were a big factor in my upgrade to a 911.
