2001 Volvo S40 erratic first thing

When setting off doesnt run smoothly for about a mile then its fine

Petrol ? Diesel ? Petrol could be plugs, leads, cold start system, temperture sensor ect. Diesel could be fuel regulator ect. Either way, a good service would be a starting point

The car is petrol and has been to the garage they suggest engine additives for awhile - any good?
