2001 Vauxhall Zafira aircon not working

Car: Vauxhall Zafira
Year: 2001
Variant: 1.6 L petrol
Categories: Leaks & Noises
I have a problem with the Aircon on my Vauxhall Zafira in that it does not engage the magnetic clutch when the air con button is pressed. The indicator lamp in the car comes on but when measured at the Cluch supply connector there is no voltage present.
All the fuses seem OK and my first thought was that the temperature sensor in the car had failed and therefore never engaging the compressor but then I read that if the pressure drops too low in the system it disengages the compressor so that it doesn't get damaged, this sounds a possiblity as the car is 10 years old and has never been topped up that I am aware of. and the Air con had dropped in efficiency over the last couple of years.
Does any one have experience of this problem or helpful suggestions please.

Could run it into Kwik fit , especially as you haven't had system charged in years .Worth a try ?

Sadly it was a waste of money, tookit to have it refilled and it turns out to have a leak in the condenser radiator.
