2005 Vauxhall Zafira fuel gauge keeps dropping to empty when driving

when i turn on the engine the fuel gauge go's up when i drive along the road a bit it drops to empty it seems worse when the tank is full what could the problem be ?

Could be a faulty tank unit , but check wiring .
