2001 Vauxhall Zafira fan that cleared exhaust fumes on starting first thing in the morning

Car: Vauxhall Zafira

the fan that clears exhaust fumes on starting first thing in the morning has stopped working so now when i start i get an amount of white smoke, this disappears almost immediately.it then never happens again that day,i am told it is known as the egr (exhaust gas recirculator).any one got any clues as to what its proper name is,it is located behind the front driver side headlight, under a cover.

there is no fan to do this job if you have smoke thats another problem. the egr is to recirculate already burnt exhaust fumes back into engine to cool combustion chamber to help with emissions and fuel economy how bad is white smoke could it be condensation .does engine misfire when its there

No not having any misfiring problems and bizarley have had no smoke at all when starting first thing in the morning for the last 2 days.Is condensation a possibility?
