2002 Vauxhall Zafira heater plug snapped

Car: Vauxhall Zafira
Year: 2002
Variant: 2.0 Manual DTI
Categories: Leaks & Noises
3 out of 4 heater plugs were snapped by unauthorized repairer (send by in law to save some money lol). It's difficult to start in the morning with only 1 starter plug. Been told need new cylinder head if to replace that 3 heater plug. Is there cheaper way to get it fixed?

hi,look in local phone book for an engeneering company some will be able to drill out the heater plugs & retap the thread if poss rather than replace the head, sometimes the head may have to be removed 1st.

as advised already.contact an engineering firm, some can come out to you and remove the old glow plugs in situ and repair the thread.which would save you the time and cost of removing the head

Though you can remove broken plugs from head in situ , you have to be very , very careful that no swarth / metal cuttings don't drop into cyls . damaging bores on start up .There are steps you can take to minimise this , but a lot of engineering companies prefer to remove head and thereby eliminate any chance of this .

If you can drill a small pilot hole down each of the broken heater plugs you may be able to use stud extractors to remove the broken plugs, without the need to remove the head or have to retap the holes. Good Luck :o)
