2002 Vauxhall Zafira car not starting also chip in key has falled out please help

Hi my car broke down even though it had been driving fine but stopped of to pop in the shop and got back into the car and it wouldnt start, my dad had a look at the car has changed the filters and cant quite understand whats going on as were sure it was fuel related but come to realise fuel is getting through, but after looking at another post on this site i read about a chip in the key (responder fault), it then dawned on me just before i got out to pop in the shop, i dropped my keys and the key fell apart and what i thought was just a bit of plastic had fallen out, i picked it up and put it in the car which now i realise is a chip for the key, i have put it back in but the car still wont start, iv tried putting the chip in different ways round but still no luck, does anyone have a clue, and could i have damaged the key somehow because the car trys to turn over but just does not fire, please help
