2001 Vauxhall Zafira fuel gauge fluctuating between full&empty

fuel gauge was working fine until i hit a fly on dashboard and from 3/4 full my gauge
suddenly showed empty and since it happened
yesterday it has been fluctuating from 3/4 to empty and back again.

i would say remove sender and check from tank end but fly incedent would suggest faulty gauge or connection remove pod check wireing if nothing found it will need new gauge,would help if 2nd hand unit ava to test as most require whole dash pods.or check yollow pages for auto electric specialist
