Oil light comes at 1000 rpm

the oil light comes on every time i stop with engine still running,or if i drop to about 1000 rpm.itook a chance and have done about 1000 miles since it started .the car seems to be running just as good as it always has,with no problems.but would like any suggestions as to what might be causing this.many thanks.

well all i will suggest to start with is have a oil and filter change first then if the problem still persists then you may require engine work ie oil pump but do the oil and filter change first

had an oil and filter change about 4 months ago.could you please expand on what might be an oil pump problem.many thanks

could be faulty oil pressure switch, or lack of oil pressure from the pump.
If the engine is not knocking i would buy a new switch for it first, Or get your oil pressure checked at the dealers.

Engine flush and replace oil and filter with o.e. spec or original parts only. If no joy it could well be an oil pump thats worn. You don't state the mileage but anything from 100.000 onwards could be a problem. Try a new switch as mentioned but the oil pump is not that expesive and really not that big a job to do at home.

thanks for everyones help.i think you are right,possibly an oil pump problem,ihave done 58000 miles.you say a pump is not difficult to change,how difficult,and where is the oil switch located.many thanks.
