and there's no warning that it's going just the sound of valves hitting pistons and then it's too late.
Get the belt done.

Could also stretch and jump .Very dangerous not to replace belt. I made many a penny from those that gambled and lost .

Us mechanics really don't make much doing belt changes,
But Oh boy when someone's gambled and lost and snapped the belt
AND want's it repaired it's happy mechanic day.
Even better when we've told them it needed done and been ignored.
