2011 Vauxhall Zafira whirring engine noise

Hi, I just noticed a constant whirring sound coming from the engine all the time it's running. It goes from a low tenor sound to a high soprano sound and back again. Sounds like a revving noise. Any ideas on what it might be, please?

Probably the DPF regenerating which is normal .Check this link for further explanation (see Symptoms of active regeneration section )
