2007 Vauxhall Zafira engine runing hot, radiator hot at top cold at bottom

Engine runs ok but gets very hot, the radiator gets hot at the top but the bottom feels cold, also the coolant pot where you top up the level also gets hot. any ideas.

If running hot check thermostat and coolant fan cutting in .

I am asuming the Thermostst works because the top of the radiator gets hot,the cooling fan cuts in.

Top of rad and radiator header tank should get hot under normal driving as long as temp gauge is not in red or car losing water . .
