Sounds like it's your ABS kicking in which is normal if driving on ice / snow .
Answered Mar 14, 2013 (11 years ago)
thank for reply but thecar just slides the abs would make the pedalljudder is ther any way you candisable the abs to see if thats the prob

The ABS usually has a self diagnostic test. The light will come on when you start the car and the self-diagnostic tests the system. After a few seconds it should go off , it means that the ABS is working properly. If not the ABS light will stay on and you have a fault with the system. Get a diagnostic check carried out if you think there is a fault .

You could strip down , clean out front disc pads and give a coat of Copperslip grease after making sure the pads are sliding in calliper o.k and pistons are free .

Glad to help .Just put Coppergrease on contact points and on back plate of pads .Hope it cures your fault .

Could be a warped disc from your description.
Answered Mar 14, 2013 (11 years ago)
It does sound like abs cutting in .Not sure a strip down and copper slip will elevate it

Or water getting into a.b.s. sensor or system.
Answered Mar 14, 2013 (11 years ago)
" on dry roads its fine" you would think would rule out warped disc ?
Answered Mar 14, 2013 (11 years ago)
You could go into any local MOT station when they were quite and ask them to stick car on brake tester and check front brake balance readings . Could also tell if brake disc were warped .
Answered Mar 14, 2013 (11 years ago)
Yes you are correct that the fault description would indeed rule out a warped disc.but quite often customer interpretatation or description of fault can be wrong ,anyway it,s only a could be your fault,as are many of the post answers on this site are, best to keep an open mind.
