My rear lights went out suddenly with no warning while driving and every time I apply brakes the brake lights flash like disco lights

Check bulbs , earth wires first and any fuses .May also be cluster fault .

Check for chafed or broken wiring at rear .

I took the car to an auto electrics yesterday and was told it's my ecu unit it seems really strange that the right side has resolved itself but the left side is no rear light now and brake still flashing reverse light works and so does hazard ???
