Handbrake problem

Hello,

Just want to pick collective thoughts really.

I recently carried out an 80k service on my Zafira. In order to negate removing the undertray I placed the car on a set of drive on ramps. When I put the handbrake on I heard a definite 'doink' from the rear left side and now the handbrake has to be put on further in order for it to hold, especially on a hill. Now on occasion it either sticks or hardly comes on at all. Apart from it being an MOT failure does this sound like the left cable has gone awol or is it something a little more serious?

Fixing it isn't a problem as I am quite a spannerist although a little reluctant to get under the car at the mo due to the snow...Any ideas would be well received.

Hi there,I think you should chock the front wheeles and put a axle stand under the back of the car on the side you want to work on and put handbrake on. (sorry I know you seid about the weather) first get under the car and check that the handbrake cable has not fraid or snaped,if it looks all ok then try tuning the wheele with your hands to see if the handbrake is holding if it turns then you will have to take the wheele off for fether investigation,if there dose not seem to be a problem on that side then check the other side aswell.
hope this has been a help.
iceiceice.
ps, dont forget you can always ask for fether help.
