Brake lights come on when i turn lights on

when i turn my lights on my brake lights come on straight away , but they work fine as long as my lights stay of.

Sounds like you have a wrong type bulb in one of your brake lights that's causing a bridge to circuit when your light,s are on .check the bulb,s first.

Got to agree with above possible cause but seems strange both sides would have wrong bulbs fitted .It does happen quite often but usually after someone has fitted / replaced one bulb .Normally it would be a 380 , double filament bulb covering side and brake lights .I have had some in where they have managed somehow to fit a 382 single contact causing this fault .IF not that , check the brake pedal switch is not sticking holding lights on.

bustednuckles has the right solution i had the same problem with my car i changed the brake light bulb and everything was ok
