2006 Vauxhall Zafira timing belt replacement

Car: Vauxhall Zafira
Year: 2006

Categories: Gearbox & Clutch
at what mileage intervals should the timing belt be replaced??
Posted: Jan 1, 2013 (11 years ago)
"On 1.9CDTI, timing belt drives waterpump and waterpump failure can fling it off in as little as 40k miles, wrecking the engine. By December 2008 this was becoming increasingly common at about 4 years old and circa 50k - 60k miles. So engines need new belts, tensioners, pulleys and waterpumps before 4 years old or 50k miles."

Some say different , but better safe than sorry .

Second opinion ,

" The timing belt on any vauxhall should be changed at 4years or 40000 miles , spent 16 years at vauxhall and all the stuff they listed about 80000 miles 8 years etc is rubbish
better to spend £200 at 40000 miles than a full rebuils at 80k because the belt snaps !!!!!!! "

I have driven a few Vectra's with the 1.9CDTI Engine and the Belt's have been changed at 120000KMS without any problems prior to that.

I suggest you send an e-mail to Customer Support at Vauxhall and quote them the Reg No and Chassis No of your Zafira and they will confirm the recommended interval.

You would be crazy to exceed the recommended interval . Look at the bottom of these specs for confirmation . I have made plenty of money in in my workshops repairing the damage caused by not replacing cambelts when required . Also many cars were beyond economical repair due to the engine damage caused by neglecting the timing belt and subsequentlty scrapped .

My sons cambelt (on a Vectra 1.9dti)was changed at 60000mls and the old one looked like it would have done another 40000mls. My Peugeot 2.5 diesel engined motorcaravan cambelt was changed on 50000mls and looked like it would have done another 50000mls. A lot depends on the use of the vehicle. If it does a lot of stopping and starting say city driving or taxi driving obviously the belt will wear quicker than driving long distance at a steady speed.

Yeah but it,s not just the belt is it you would normally change the rollers which have bearing,s in them and who knows if they are up to the job,If you do not follow the manufacturers guide then your gambling against a greater cost when it all goes bang.

Agree with "busted knuckles " comment , plus a lot of times it may be water pump failure that causes the damage . That is why a lot of garages insist on fitting a cambelt kit on a lot of models .
