2000 Vauxhall Zafira oil usage

hello there i have just purchased a zafira 2000 plate my problem is the management light keeps coming on and car drives sluggish then after i have stopped and restarted it runs fine also i have put in 3 litres of oil over the last 3 weeks there is no oil leak on drive and no visible oil leaks then today oil light came on ??? after a puff of smoke bellowed out of the exhaust i am not car friendly so i rely on help mainly this one is making me worried i dont want to take it into garage just yet cause i would like to what i might be looking at to fix it i would be very kind if anyone could help me awaiting any response

worst case piston rings worn. more likely is valve stem seals are worn causing oil to leak down onto your pistons this then gets pushed out the exhaust which would explain the smoke

thank you for your response the smoke only shows every now and then, not all the time the oil light came on and flickered has well so if it was leaking into the pistons would it not be smoking all the time ? i have now put in 3 and a half litres in about 4 weeks perhaps the smoking is caused by having to much oil in and it has nowhere to go other than being sent out through the exhaust, i am no mechanic so i am only guessing logically, do i need to take it into the garage for a proper inspection ?
