2001 Vauxhall Zafira alve stem oil seals

Can anyone help me? Had engine re-built last year (2011). Was driving last saturday when Bang went the car and loads of smoke.

Garage says valve stem oil seals worn out!
Oil blocked catalitic converter, built up pressure, and blown cat converter and exhaust apart!

Called my mechanic, and he says the parts should havebeen new, as they come in a pack. He said he woud call the people he got them from and call me back - still waiting!!

What are my rights?

Car is in Portsmouth - 169 miles from where I live.

I am disabled and need my car. Unfortunately, its not a mobility car.

Also, its been leaking oil and drinking oil since the engine was re- built. I dont know what to do.
