the egr valve--when on cruse (not idle or wide open throttle) the ecu opens the egr valve this takes a sample of engine output(exhaust fumes)from the exhaust and puts it back into the inlet manifold, this changes the temp in the combustion chamber. improves fuel economy and reduces emissions.(a little).older systems can be blocked with little change to ecco and emissions. sorry dont know zafira syster well enough ecu remapping poss ask vauxhall if its poss.later cars may have problems with euro 5 emission laws mot etc?
