2005 Vauxhall Vivaro gearbox, and mass air flow sensor

Car: Vauxhall Vivaro
Year: 2005
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
hi, had a problem with my van, loss of power in first gear, and a weird sound whilst in first, brought it to the local vauxhall garage and put it on the comp, they say a new mass air flow sensor an gear box needed coming to a total of 4000 pounds, does this sound right, is this a fair price? are there any alternatives i could look into in fixing this problem which could bring the price down!? cant believe the price, van prob not woth more than 4 grand, but dont seem to be any alternative i can think off!! any suggestions would be gratefully recieved!! cheers!!

You should be able to get it a lot , lot cheaper than that . There are g/box specialist which you can usually find in local Yellow pages .Just be careful you get a good , approved , reputable garage .Could get a second opinion and also check g/box oil level.May be able to get a recon box or your own overhauled .MAF sensor can sometimes just need cleaned but not a big job to change .
