Warning lights

When I stared my van this morning an alarm noise started and the dash lit up and the Speedo and rev counted where spinning backwards and forwards. Has anyone any ideas? I turned engine off and it was ok but just nipped out again and it done it again for the whole journey.

You can get those symptoms with a low battery and the draw on battery at cranking / starting .
