Gear Box Problem

2005 Vauxhall Vivaro
Car: Vauxhall Vivaro
Year: 2005
Categories: Gearbox & Clutch
Ok, the other day was driving along and could only select forward gears, Rev, 1st, 3rd 5th, all the down gears 2nd, 4th, 6th would not engage as the gear stick physically would not move down. Got it to mechanics and he says that the downward arm on the gear box is getting stuck, not letting you move the stick down, u can physically move the lever on the gear box with a screw driver and it frees and you can select all gear again. This only seems to last a few days as it goes again and you have to repeat this procedure. Gear selection has always been stiff since ive owned the van, there no grinds from box and drives ace... Anyone else had a problem like this or can offer any advice..

Had a similar problem with a ford ,the cause was the lever on the gearbox was corroded where it pivot,s,I had to removed it completely and clean the surface with emery cloth then grease it ,which cured the issue, yours may be an issue such as this.

Was it a gear box out job?

Going by what " busted knuckles " suggests , would imagine it's an external linkage job , rather than box out .Had similar on other cars over the years , his suggestion is the only lasting method .
