Oil leak/ limp mode

2008 Vauxhall Vivaro
Car: Vauxhall Vivaro
Year: 2008
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi, My Vivaro developed a very small oil leak recently and would not start. I was told by the Vauxall mechanic who got it going that it was in permanent limp mode and that driving it for more than 5 miles would cause damage to the CPU. He said that it would then need resetting at a cost of £300 + the cost of fixing the oil leak.
Has anyone else heard of anything like this?

What a pile of shit, scuse me.
These vans have a two stage mil warning light,it's the glow plug light,if it stays on it's stage 1,if it's flashing it's stage 2,obviously more serious.
Is your glow plug light on WHILE the engine is running?
If not it's NOT in limp home mode!!
These vans are not without their problems but the biggest seems to be Vaux mechanics lack of understanding.
And as for that reset fee.....words fail me..
Take it to Renault, that's what it is after all,a Traffic.
They'll charge you an hour for a diagnostic, and that's a lot less than your quote.
And I'd give that wide ba***rd a wide berth from now on.
The only time I've seen a blown ecu on these was when someone was mig welding right next to it.

Its unlikely the small oil leak has any bearing on your non start issue, i suspect you have another problem, you would be best off taking it to your local garage for a code read and go from there.
