MPG very low

2004 Vauxhall Vectra 2.2 SRI direct, petrol auto
Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Year: 2004
Variant: 2.2 SRI direct, petrol auto
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Up until 6 weeks ago I was averging 44mpg, this was driving the car very carefully.
The MPG has now dropped to 32-34 MPG.

The brakes are not binding, the air filter is new, but the car still feels as though it is towing something heavy. When it is in drive and freewheeling down a hill, the instant MPG used to show 999.9, but now it's about 123.5 ish. It is as though something is braking, like it is in the wrong gear, but when I flick the stick over into semi-automatic, it is in the right gear. The car is now costing a fortune to rune, any ideas or suggestions?

Possibly you lambda sensor, would not make anything bind or anything but would certainily make fel consumption low.

NOTE : sometimes fuel consumption computers are a pain too
