2003 Vauxhall Vectra car with spanner light comes on

when driving a distance(approx 10 miles without stopping)car starts to chug as if touching brakes. spanner light comes on. It then seems to free itself for a while and drives okay. It can repeat same several times and when I slow down at junction etc, it cuts out.There is no problem starting again.
Frightened if this happens on motorway, could cause accident.

Car has a misfire and that is what is causing light to come on . You dont say what engine is in car ? Normal causes can be ignition coils/ coil pack , plugs , ignition leads etc. depending on engine .Any local garage should be able to diagnose fault and fix .
