Light keeps coming on

2005 Vauxhall Vectra estate 2.2 direct design
Car: Vauxhall Vectra

Variant: estate 2.2 direct design
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
when driving the car shudders then loses power. light keeps coming on. it is a picture of a car with a spanner through it. there are a few possible causes in the manual but all involve going to a vauxhall dealer which always costs a fortune. do you have any idea what it could be and how much its likely to cost.

I had a similar problem with my Vectra (2.0DTi). I had to take it to a Vauxhall specialist to have the tech2 diagnostics plugged in.
It was a split vacuum pipe elbow (the vac pipe to the boost sensor)
Invisible to the eye apparently but a common fault - approx £5 for new rubber elbows.
