2003 Vauxhall Vectra car wont start

Over the last few weeks have had a problem starting my car when key is turned in the ignition I get nothing at all, the fuel gauge remains at 0 the fan cuts off and there is a click behind the dashboard when I turn the key, when I stop trying to turn the key the fan starts again, sometimes if a get out the car and leave it for a few minutes it starts first time and sometimes it dose not. thinking it might be the key I have tried both keys with no sucess.

Might be worth checking all battery connections and earths , starter / alternator wiring and connections .Could possibly be faulty ignition switch ?
