Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Year: 2002

Cooling fan makes noise for about 2mins after swithing off engine. In traffic it switches on and off when temperature reaches 90. During long journey temperature stays below 80. is this normal

as long as the fan is cutting in and out and the gauge is not going right to the red this is fine,if the car is really hot when switched off the fan will continue to run untill the cut out temperature is reached,if its getting too hot then you might need to chnage your coolant temp sensor

Just to be safe , check coolant level in header tank is o.k. Is this something that has just started with car ?

Thank you 2145simon and Whittingehame, I bought the vechicle over a year and it has always the made the fan noise but it seems to happen more frequently these days.

Glad to help , just keep an eye on temp gauge and coolant / water level . If needing a new fan switch (though it seems to be operating o.k just now )it's a minor and inexpensive job .If needing any further help , get back to board .
