1956 Vauxhall Vectra engine dies after a/c turnedon

Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Year: 1956
Variant: 2.2 design auto
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Has happened twice - first time was a complete mystery second time when I thought about it the "common denominator" is the air conditioning being on. After a while the engine simply dies - electrics still on - radio, fan, dash lights etc but no power. After a few minutes I can restart and proceed.

Only thing I can think of would be getting alternator tested As it could be struggling with the load intermittently .Could also check wiring / connector at alternator .

have you had any problems with the car starting that would indicate a battery or alternator problem.akso check that the air con compressor pulley is free and not siezed.does the aircon actually work?
