This might help ,

Have in a Vectra B 2001 2.0 Diesel with an ABS fault,

Fault codes stored are
C0040 - Front Right Wheel Speed Sensor incorrect Signal
C0245 - Wheel Speed Sensor Erratic Signal
C0550 - Brake System or Electronic Control Unit (ECU) Malfunction

Codes will clear but 1st to codes will return within driving the car about 2 foot, all wheel speed sensors are working fine according to live data display on Tech 2.

Sometimes ABS pump runs for no apparent reason and brake pedal pulsates under braking whilst just driving normally. Pump type fitted is the Kelsey Hayes and i'm sure its a Pump/Module fault.

thanks

Hi Lee,
Have you had a good look for a damaged/cracked reluctor on the O/S/F?
Regards Steve Harvey

paragon:
Kelsey Hayes units are renowned for unreliability on the Vectras.

I have read a post on here about a guy who managed to open one up and then resolder the field windings to one of the output coils in the control unit on top. I'm sure you will turn it up if you do a search.

My gut feeling is control unit gone down which as you know is all part and parcel of the pump unit!

adamg:
Had one recently with two cracked front rings
one showed a bit on live data and logged a signal code
also ECU malfunction code ???
after checking and replacing that side cracked ring It was better but not right. ABS still cutting in
no live data faults or codes
checked other side front ring and found it to be cracked too
replaced and tested perfect (also no more ECU malfunction) very strange indeed ;D

Lee,

Is the ABS activating under normal braking? If the pump is comming on then it sugests that the system thinks it has a wheel lock-up and is replenishing fluid back on the pedal side of the hydrolic circuit.

Realy need to scope the sensors all 4 together and at the ECU, often this problem will will show a faulty sensor operating with the correct frequency but the ampliude of the signal can be low leading the ECU to think it has a lock-up at a partcular wheel station.

Possibles to look for: corrosion at ECU multi plug. high resistance on the sensor cable (water ingres/chaffed cable) corrosion/dirt build up at tip of sensor, sensor reluctor air gap increaced and excessive corrosion on reluctor.

ECU malfunction code can be due to the confusuin from above sensor fault and have also seen it as a result from a sticking brake pedal switch.

Also , if that's what's fitted on your car ,Vauxhall Vectra Kelsey Hayes all in one ABS pump, controller and modulator are commonly failing.
