2002 Vauxhall Vectra need new engine

I WAS RECENTLY DRIVING MY CAR AND IT STARTED TO SOUND LIKE A DIESEL.TOOK IT TO CARAGE THEY SAID NO OIL WAS GETTING TO THE TOP AS A RESULT MY HEAD IS NO GOOD AND I NEED A NEW ENGINE.ANY IDEAS FOR A CHEAPER OPTION AS NEW ENGINE +FITTING IS 1100 AT LEAST. WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO REPLACE CYLINDER HEAD.PLUS IF ENGINE IS SO BAD WHY IS CAR STILL RUNNING.THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.

without listening to the engine hard to say what the problem is,no oil to top of engine (seems a bit suspect) try a second opinion from another garage or try the aa or rac, if a member for a small fee they may look at the engine could be cheaper than a new engine

u could try removing rocker cover and camshafts and blow commpressed air through oil ways.depends on mechanical ability..good luck.

Like " Moley 1956 " would suggest getting second opinion .That car suffered from problems with timing chains due to lack of oil and started to rattle badly before failing .If you go here you can get more info . and engines affected .

i would have sump off and check strainer and oil pump. then at that stage as said before blow oil ways out ans check for air flow through oil filter housing. again, depends on mechanical ability...
