Remembered this from another site ,

there is a release for the latch, you can get at it from inside the boot..

there is a grommet in the liner of the bootlid, prise it out and you'll see a large rectangular socket, 5mm x 10mm. put a large flat screwdriver in there and gently work the action to release the bootlock..

I had the same thing happen to me 3 weeks ago.. the slide that the servomotor operates in the electric release has run dry of lubricant..

you need to remove the rear bootlid cover and extract the lock assembly, then liberally dose up the servo motor and it's sliding lock catch with spray grease..

cured 4 vec's now with this 'treatment..oddly enough when they are about 2-3 yrs old..
