2000 Vauxhall Vectra engine light on, rev counter dies & lack of power

Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Year: 2000
Variant: 2.2 TDI
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
My vectra has suddenly developed this fault. After driving for approx 10-15 mins the engine light comes on, the rev counter drops to zero and there is a lack of power. This problem started the day after I was forced to put "BIO-DIESEL" in, as the garage was out of standard diesel. I've since put in standard diesel. I've also drained the fuel filter and changed the filter.
Can anybody offer any help PLEASE.
Thanks Taz

May be any number of problems (even non fuel related)
The engine light usually has to do with emmisions so it could be one of the many small plastic breather pipes has come loose or got a hole.
If the spanner light is lit it could be another problem
I had a leak in the pipe from the throttle body to the intercooler and that caused the spanner light to come on with loss of power.
This is a common fault and it is best to replace the rubber pipe with a silicon one to prevent deterioration.
If none of these help im afraid its diagnostic time.
Call out the AA/RAC and have them check it on their diagnostic systems or as a last resort take it to a Vauxhall dealer.
