when my vectra starts it sounds as if is off on the timing
there is white smoke from the exhust alot of it ican only
get the revs to 1000 and then engine mang light come on

code read the eng man light a code will be stored in the ecm which will point you in the right direction

might be the egr valve stuck open try giving it a tap whilst the car is running it worked for me once with a saab that uses the same engine
