only one brake light works on either side there is nothing wrong with the bulbs but i can only get one working at a time.
almost as if the 2 together are draining the power.

First thing to check is that both bulbs are the same and correct for the fitment.
All brake light bulbs are not the same,
the pins can be in different positions.
