1999 Vauxhall Vectra engine light comes on car gose into limp mode

whilst driving light comes on and car gose into limp mode, turn engine off and on light gose out have noticed it seams to do it on stop start or in trafic, think its when the temp gauge gets to 90 degrees

Thats engine management system kicking in to protect the engine,
Could be faulty thermostat!
