Engine whining noise

2007 Vauxhall Vectra CDTI SRI 150
Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Year: 2007
Variant: CDTI SRI 150
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Only just recently purchased the Vectra. Noticed today coming back from work.

Its a continual whining noise from idle which gets louder as you accelerate. I would say its not transmission related as when revving in neutral its still the same.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Could stick a meter on and load test alternator .Another thought , not turbo whine ?

Don't think so as I can still hear the natural whistle of a healthy turbo as well.

my car is doing the same thing it started with a lagging in the accelleration in every gear and juddering as if im using a too high gear, now this week i have the noise under the bonnet that gets worse with accelleration just like you have mentioned in this tread. it sounds very rattley aswell, its the petrol sri 1.8 so not turbo issue. have you managed to find out the cause of your issue yet? as mine may be the same thanks
