Rear End Noise

2004 Vauxhall Vectra 1.9cdti 150 estate
Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.9cdti 150 estate
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Got a strange one have a noise from the N/S rear wheel its like a clicking sound but a bit more intense the sound in intermittent and goes up and down with speed the sound does not appear until done about 5 miles from cold. l would have bet it was a bearing but took it to our local garage ( who are very good ) who say no play in the bearings tyres are ok and the calipers look ok. Dont know where to look next as these things are expensive to repair at the stealers. Maybe ABS problem speed sensor or could the bearing make the noise without any visible sign of play but to my mind once a bearing has gone the noise would be there all the time not intermittent

A bearing can be noisy without showing excessive movement or play .Might be worth stripping down and cleaning out rear pads and making sure the are not sticking or needing copper greased to enable to slide o.k .Also check h/brake cable and linkage not sticking also .

hi i had this on my vectra. it sounds like a rattle, then a tinkling , or a whine but usually stops when the brakes are pressed lightly.. i traced this to ironically the anti rattle shims on the pads.. they rattle when knackered.. replaced them and my problem solved... cheaper than bearings etc and a lot easier to do. ok
