hi the wont go above 4000 is beacause your car is now in "limp" mode to protect it. i had this problem and it persisted through the usual rituals of cleaning. i eventually took the carb off and cleaned the throttle body.. very importantly there is a small tube that goes to the base of the throttle body ( about five oclock as you look down on it) the little hole in the body gets blocked and shuts down the system as it cant breath.. get a paperclip and straighten it.. gentle push pull wiggle and ream the clip in the hole untill it come out the other end( from outer to inner) then squirt some plus gas or wd up the hole to rince it and reassemble the lot.. worked for me atreat. everything was normal. tickover throttle starting all cured.. YOU WILL have to get the codes fault cleared with a code reader though. or if in 40 clean starts time it should reset anyway( best to get it reset, cheap code reader ebay etc should work)ok
