Poor mpg

2005 Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 cdti 150
Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Year: 2005
Variant: 1.9 cdti 150
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
I have a vectra 1.9 cdti and I suspect I have poor mpg. I am a mechanic and I have been over the full car several times , tyre pressures , brakes , full service including every filter. I got the diesel because I thought of good mpg but round town I am getting 37 mpg. Can anyone let me know if this is what it should be running at round town, I thought it would be better. Long distances it improves to around 48 mpg average which is fine. Someone please let me know what they think so I can stop looking for faults.

Thanks

I've got to agree, your figures are pretty well spot on. I have the estate version 130k on clock had from new and built up to the figures you mentioned. The problem is the Fiat JTD engine.
The other issues we've had may help:
Cambelt just in time @62k with new water pump.
New alternator @70k
New front springs @42k
DMF Clutch and slave cylinder major disaster @ 75k
Catastrophic cambelt failure, followers,camshaft & valves @120k.
Just be aware. Good luck.
