my Vectra keeps going into idle mode wen I change gear it stops or if I turn engine off and back on its fine for a wile wen it does this the engine magment lite changes to a spanner the car still runs wen this happens it just wont any faster

Many possible causes , need to get itscanned and see what shows.

is it a automatic if so you could have a gearbox fault that will need to be stripped in a very clean environment as if any dust gets in you will end up with more faults than started with.
